Trails End Lodge Logs has been building Log Homes for more than 30 years and is now semi retired. With all that experience behind My son and I, we are still here to help those of you who are going to build a home weather it is a log home or not we are here to help.
Words of caution for those of you that are planning to build. I have seen many that have been taken advantage of by builders and sales people.
Do Not Believe What they Say. Do your home work! Never take them at face value. Check there background, and the people they have done work for at least 10 years back.
Here is an example of how one can tell a story and make it look good when it really was not!
The Russian paper Headline read Russian Runner comes in next to first and USA runner comes in next to last. There were only TWO runners in the race, the USA runner who came in first and the Russian runner who came in last.
So you see one can not make good decisions from a lot of BS.
Common sense and logic will always win out.
If you have any building questions just give me a call.
Have a great day,
Dan Barnett

Prelude to What log homes are really all about

Hi,
I have been building, designing, and selling log homes for over 30 years and I asked myself the other day: What are log homes really about?
I would like to think they are about America's past such as log cabins, Lincoln log cabins, some of Americas National parks Log Lodges and more. To me it means something to do with Honest Abe (my great uncle) and more importantly honesty, integrity, and simply caring.
Log homes not only reflect on the past but our future as well. They are safer, more energy efficient than many homes on the market today. If the logs are manufactured right and taken care of properly they will last a lifetime and cost over 30% less to heat and cool than the average home today. When in an earthquake they are more stable than any other type of home. An example is the Sanfrancisco quake of 89, 7.4 on the Ric tor scale, 4 log homes by Lodge Logs near the epicenter did not even have a window broken yet all other buildings around them were compromised.
In Florida 180 MPH winds destroyed everything except for a log home. These homes when bolted to the foundation, ( first started by Lodge Logs in 1975) with bolts going up through the log walls even through the log rafters will resist most tornadoes with only minor problems such as loosing roofing and windows breaking (why are not these being built in these areas).
Log homes are our future since they can be made from thinning our forests not clear cutting for lumber.
Looking toward our future energy is the biggest problem we have today: Log Homes Are about our future since they are by far the best energy efficient and safest home on the market today.
YES, Log homes truly are about our future.
Any comments are appreciated and I will continue to write about my experiences with log homes.
